Sophie M. Winn (nee Bogdan) of Cicero, was called by our Lord at the age of 92 on Good Friday, March 29th, in Evanston, Illinois, with her daughter Maria by her side.
She was born to Stephania and Albert Bogdan in Chicago at the family home on May 30, 1931 and was the youngest of seven, who have all preceded her in death. She was the dear sister of Henry, Stella, Frank, Matthew (Lilian), Walter Bogdan and Emily (Andrew) Kicmal.
Sophie was graduated from St. Casimir Grade School in 1945 and St. Casimir Commercial High School in 1947 in Chicago, after which she began working for Sears Roebuck & Co. where she would meet her future husband, the late John E. Winn, who passed on January 8, 1996. She worked as an executive secretary and after 25 years, she "retired" from Sears and took on her next career as a dedicated mother.
As a result of her generous spirit and warmhearted personality, she was loved by many. She was a strong supporter of UCP-Seguin Services, West Suburban Special Recreation Association, SRCA and SPRED, all who serve individuals with special needs.
Sophie is survived by her loving and adoring children, Maria and Johnny Winn; beloved nieces and nephews, Fred Bogdan, Emily (Eugene) McCormick, and Andrew (Deborah) Kicmal; special friends, Silvia Iusan, Renee Thompson, and the late Herbert Ryske, as well as many dear friends from St. Mary of Czestochowa Parish in Cicero, where she was a parishioner for nearly 70 years, and the loving community of St. Ita Church in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago, where her daughter lives.
Services will be held at Sourek Funeral Home. 5645 W. 35th St. Cicero, IL. 60804 at 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., followed by a procession to St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, 3010 S. 48th Court, Cicero, IL 60804 with Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, 7201 Archer Road, Justice, IL 60458
