Delfina was a community school aide in San Antonio, Tx. She was also a respected advocate for Welfare Rights in her early years. She was a founding member of the Sequin Flea Market in Cicero and loved a good bargain and was very good at haggling prices. She had an entrepreneurial spirit from selling Aqua Frescas to ceramics. Also selling at the Maxwell Street Market. Among her favorite things was her love of Tejano music especially Selena, Flaco Jimenez and Freddy Fender. She was an avid dancer especially Polka and won several awards with Frank. Her favorite things included Halloween, Garage sales and she loved family gatherings with her kids and extended family. She always made you feel welcome in her home.
Mom was proud to be involved in overseeing several of her children being on Television, Movies and Theatre. She managed a very popular break dancing group for some time, giving them exposure outside of their own neighborhood in performances and competitions all over Chicago and the suburbs with many wins for her group known as “Freeze”. Mom was known in the break dancing community as “Mama Freeze”. She got the “Freeze” group in Chicago on the Bozo Circus show and on local TV on the Johnny Canales show as frequent performers.
Delfina was the family guardian and protector. Although she did not graduate High School yet she took on corporate lawyers to street punks. She never had any fear of anyone but God. Delfina did whatever she had to do to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table and clothes on our backs. Although she could not always attend church she instilled spiritual and religious values through scripture and songs in her children. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
